Welcome to the LeAnn Gardner Counseling and Training Blog! My plan is to provide thoughtful, educational posts for your enjoyment and learning, but also for dialogue. Before I do that, however, I want to announce some exciting news. Carrie Nettles is joining the SAFE team!
Carrie graduated from Clemson with a BA in Sociology and received her MDiv from Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary. Carrie has worked in the children's ministries of five different churches and as a child advocate in a Child Advocacy Center in Charleston. Carrie has raveled to General Theological Seminary and studied with Jerome Berryman, specifically working on a theology of the child and the spirituality of the child. Carrie completed a residency with the Spiritual Care department at Greenville Memorial Hospital where she worked with the Children's Hospital and the children's residential and acute adolescent programs at Marshal Pickens. Currently she serves as the Victim Services Specialist addressing the spiritual care needs at the Julie Valentine Center in Greenville, SC.
Carrie is the pioneer in this position and is thrilled that the spiritual needs that arise from trauma are being intentionally addressed. Carrie enjoys gardening, reading, being in the mountains, and spending time with her family. She enjoys teaching Godly Play, doing theology with children, holding space with trauma victims, and studying the intersection of spirituality and trauma for the ways that tending to one's spiritual needs can offer healing and hope. Doing that work allows her to peep glimpses of resurrection and the reign of God.
I am thrilled that SAFE’s reach can be expanded because Carrie has come on board. She is now my teammate, but more importantly she is a friend who shares the same passion and vision as I.
Welcome, Carrie!
